day five …

Dive sites – Roma and Dunia Baru

I booked the 9.30 am and the 2.15 am boat trips today.  I needed a sleep-in and some time to catch up on some photo sorting and editing.

Another Lionfish, several Nemos (Eastern Clownfish), more Spine-cheeked Anemonefish, Pink Anemonefish, pink, purple and white Anemones, sea snakes, a Kauri Shell, another Tube Worm, a stunning Gorgonia (Sea Fan) and finally, a Nudibranch!  Followed by a lovely sunset at the Sunset Bar. A pretty good day really!

Finding an Eastern Clownfish (Nemo) and the Spine-cheeked Anemonefish on the Great Barrier Reef at home is always a treat as they are nowhere as common as the Clark and Red and Black Anemonefish we see regularly. So I loved seeing more of these special little critters at Wakatobi.

Here’s a slideshow of the other Anemonefish I spotted and managed to capture.  They are so quick darting in and out of their host Anemone, but, they do always return home so it’s all about patience (and taking lots of photos so I can pick the good ones).

This stunning Gorgonia (sea fan) …

As Ali, my guide today, swam ahead spotting creatures I’d be interested in, I found another Lionfish. This time a bit closer to the surface.

… and just as we were about to swim to the boat, Ali found me a Nudibranch.  I had Ketut yesterday and now Ali today, looking out for these tiny critters but until now, no luck. This Nudi was no bigger than my small fingernail. How Ali spotted it, I don’t know. So tiny. I wasn’t even hopeful I’d get any photos in focus, so I was pleasantly surprised I managed one photo in focus!

And the animal for today?

… a bear!
